What's a personal bubble? - BOYS

Observations in Gym...

Have you ever had one of those moments where you just wish you could record exactly what you're feeling at that point in time? It's 8:30 am on Wednesday, September 29th, 2004 and I'm sitting in the gym at Phoenix Job Corps. Nearly everybody has a basket or volley ball and everyone is happy and playing around.

Husein, Brandon and one of the hands-on's are passing around the volleyball, with Casey and Liliana jumping in. Rosalinda is trying to make baskets while Brandon has wandered over to help Maida do the same. Quincy (D) is dribbing the basketball around and shooting the occasional hoop. Maida is now talking to Rosalinda, and Phoenix (Terrence) was just lounging around on the bleachers though now he's been taken by a teacher for something.

Brandon is wandering around jumping from person to person doing as he pleases. Phoenix is back now and playing with his phone on the other set of bleachers. Maida is giggling occasionally, balls are thumping and everybody is talking and having fun.

Casey is now bouncing the volleyball on his own against the beams in the ceiling, Quincy is lieing on the bleachers behind me (Basketball in hand) with Brandon next to him. Brandon is yelling (in a loud and friendly manner) to everyone and anyone he can. Liliana has given up jumping rope and has now joined the boys behind me in a conversation.

The painters have invaded a weight room with the likely intention of painting it.

It's quarter 'till now, and there's this overwhelming sense of calmness prevading, even with all the activity and noise going on. Maybe it's because it's a half-day, maybe it's because it's Wednesday, hell, maybe it's because there's no SST today but whatever the reason everyone seems peaceful and calm and--dare I say it? Happy.

I myself am sitting on the ground before the bleachers, crutches to my right, next to my open bag, Ultimate X-Men (Volume 8) to my left and a notebook in my lap. Observing quietly and more awaken then I've been in a long time.
